Polaris-About Sports Flooring

Apart from sports footwear, quality and durability of the floor covering is equally important. It is necessary for protecting the knees, ankles and back of athletes. You need to make a careful decision when installing a new floor at your sports hall. It should not only be safe and long lasting but also help enhance athletic performance.

Not two sports are the same. Flooring requirement of a basketball court will be different from that of an indoor tennis court. For instance, if you are installing a new floor for the basketball court, you cannot select rubber flooring. Since basketball involves jumping, floor will have to be shock absorbent. Whereas for indoor tennis court, less shock absorbent floor will be required so that the ball bounces properly.
Mentioned below are different types of sports flooring options:

Wood:
Wood adds class and beauty to sport courts and gymnasium floors. It is appropriate for playing games such as mini football and basketball because it is durable and offers a good bounce for ball games. Wood is a good option but it can be difficult to maintain in high traffic areas and expensive to install.

Sports floor made from wood have additional support underneath, enabling it to “spring” slightly. Due to this feature it becomes easy to avoid injuries because the additional support put less strain on athletes’ bodies. Most floors in a sports centre are made from engineered flooring board. They are prone to gapping, cupping and warping that can cause injury to the athletes.

Maple, oak and beech are three most popular timber used for this type of flooring. Oak is not recommended for areas that are used for barefoot sports.

Rubber:
Rubber is also a safe option because it is soft and padded. Since rubber is non-slippery, chances of injuries are minimized. However, it is not a good flooring option for ball games because rubber doesn’t offer good bounce like wood. It is the perfect choice for gymnasium.

Vinyl:
Vinyl is a cost-effective, durable alternative to wood and rubber. It is not only attractive but also easy to install and maintain. Vinyl flooring is resistant to stains and water. For instance, Polaris is one of the most popular vinyl sports flooring options, available in bright and cheerful colors. It is easy to maintain, requires no polish, no wax and is VOC compliant.
